Poetry of Guarini

Note:
All of the music on this program was recorded live at the 2003 Holland Festival of Early Music at Utrecht. It features the Concerto Italiano conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini in a concert of music by Philippe de Monte (1521-1603) and Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) with texts by the Ferrara born poet Battista Guarini (1538-1612). His masterpiece, Il Pastor fido ("The Faithful Shepherd") was a lyrical pastoral drama much admired for centuries.
