Fingergullofficiet: The Relic of the Holy Blood

 Note:
By the 12th century, Nidaros (sixty miles from where King Olav was killed in 1030) was the first seat of an archbishop in Norway and the islands of the western sea. In 1165 Archbishop Eystein Erlendsson received some drops of the Holy Blood of Christ, probably carried in a ring (the title means "Golden Ring Office"). It was kept with the relics of St. Olav, and the church became a prominent pilgrimage site. The Feast of the Holy Blood is celebrated at Trondheim on September 12th.

All of the music on this program comes from the recording Fingergullofficiet from the Kirkelig Kulturverksted label (FXCD 179). It features the Schola Sanctae Sunnivae, with Henning Sommerro performing on the organ and Anne Kleivset, conductor. The recording was made in the Trondheim Cathedral (Nidarosdomen).
