Senfl (& Christmas) at the Court of Maximilian
NOTE: All of the music on this program is from the recording Sacred Music at the Vienna Court Chapel of Maximilian I featuring the Clemencic Consort and the boys Choralschola of the Vienna Court Chapel directed by Dr. Rene Clemencic. It is on the Oehms label, and is CD # OC-340.
By 1496, Maximilian sent part of his imperial chapel to Vienna, formally establishing there in 1498. Heinrich Isaac (court composer until 1517), his able associate (and successor) from Switzerland, Ludwig Senfl, and the brilliant organist Paul Hofhaimer all joined to make this a great musical center. Surrounding Josquin's Missa Di dadi are settings mostly for Christmastide by these composers in Maximilian's circle.
