July 2003 Schedule

#03-27: 7/07/03
"Il Fasolo" from Utrecht: This month's concert from the 2002 Holland Festival of Early Music presents a Roman/Neopolitan carnival farce published in Venice through the mysterious Accademia degli incogniti by one or more composers simply known as "Il Fasolo" ("the Bean").
[repeat of 03-07]

#03-28: 7/14/03:
Pop Songs and Prayers: The Antwerp Song Book: This 1544 publication revealed the wealth of Flemish popular song; this week, we'll hear some of those songs and the sacred settings of these popular tunes that helped common people sing the Psalms.
[repeat of 02-47]

#03-29: 7/21/03
The Klapa Tradition: After the stunning response given the Dalmatian singers from Hvar some weeks back, we are following up with music from  the ancient secular tradition from Croatia featuring stunning male part-songs.
[repeat of 03-08]

#03-30: 7/28/03
Rex Olavus--A stunning recreation of the ancient chant service for St. Olav ("the most  wide-spread piece of music from Norway before the age of Grieg")  radically redefined.
[repeat of 02-43]
