That spirit is of the French love song, one that evolved extensively in the second half of the 17th century. For Valentine's Day, this week lutenist Fred Jacobs and soprano Johanette Zomer evoke that elegant era. (from the Holland Festival of Early Music at Utrecht 2004).

I Fiamminghi:
They were called the "mountain-crossers," "those from beyond the Alps," or just "The Flemish." In one of the newest recordings sponsored by the Ministry of Flemish Culture, the ensemble Capilla Flamenca celebrates one of their earliest number: Arnold de Lantins (? second half 14th cen--1432).

#05-010: 2/28/05:
Arias for Farinelli:
Following the film of that name dealing with the most famous of the castrati, Vivica Genaux recreated many of these unique pieces for the popular recording on Harmonia Mundi.
