December 2009

#09-50: 12/07/09--A Norwegian Christmas: Organ and Voice, Part 1--Sacred motets performed by the ensemble Nordic Voices are interspersed with organ works by Buxtehude, de Grigny, Bach, and others
from performances by Terje Winge and Bjørn Boysen (plus the neo-mystical project "Siwan").

#09-51: 12/14/09 --A Norwegian Christmas: Organ and Voice, Part 2--More sacred works from the Nordic Voices and organ performances from The Norwegian Folk Museum (1723 organ) and the recent French-baroque organ constructed in the Ål Church in Hallingdal.

#09-52: 12/21/09--A Medieval Christmas--Keeping with a 30 year tradition, we hear three discs that link Christmas to it early roots: more early Schola Hungarica; the second disc by the Trappist Monks of Gethsemane; and the medieval Italian Laude tradition with the ensemble Trefoil.

#10-01: 12/28/09--The Norwegian Baroque--Before some weeks of Handel and the Italians, we turn to Georg van Bertouch (1668-1743), a German warrior who came to Oslo (where he took over the Akershus Castle), and created the "modern" music scene in Norway; and young trumpet soloist Tine Thing Helseth, whose new recording includes concertos by Albinoni.
