November 2009

#09-45: 11/02/09--Josquin: Missa Ad fugum: As Peter Phillips of the Tallis Scholars says of his latest project: "Who is interested in mathematical scaffolding which most people can't hear?....I knew that, like every composer of genius, Josquin would relish the challenge."

#09-46: 11/09/09 --The Voices of the Psalms--Another of the remarkable projects by the Schola Hungarica; this time, the most ancient reconstructable Psalm settings are married to Psalm chorales set by Bach.

#09-47: 11/18/09--Three American Ensembles--The Bay-area ensemble Cançonièr (12th to 14th cen. works); Asteria (late medieval love songs); and Mignarda, looking at the Airs de Cours movement in France around 1600.

#09-48: 11/23/09--Faventina--Mala Punica's recent project looks at the rarely-recorded sacred vocal material from the 98 parchment folios arranged as the Codex Faenza (c.1380-1420).

#09-49: 11/30/09--In Mulieribus--We continue our celebration of women's ensembles (the name of the group comes from the Latin "amongst women") with live performances by this Portland, Oregon-based group.
