Two ensembles--Dialogos and Sequentia--give an idea of a 9th century confrontation that took place between the cantors of the Carolingian emperors and various European regional song traditions (from the Holland Festival of Early Music at Utrecht 2004).

Mass for St. Anthony Abbot

-Here are the clues--we know that three manuscript masses by the great Dufay are linked--the great, lost, and perhaps first polyphonic Requiem; the St. Anthony of Padua Mass (recorded by The Binchois Consort); and--just possibly--the lost Mass for the early Desert Father St. Anthony Abbot. This week, we hear what the Binchois Consort believes to be the lost masterpiece by Dufay and parts of an Anthony Abbot Mass by Dufay's compatriot, Gilles Binchois.
