Another great Flemish composer and contemporary of Gombert, the Mechelen-born De Monte wound up bringing the Lowlands sound to Naples, Rome, Spain, Vienna and Prague--the Choir of New College, Oxford, convincingly performs his work.

Lassus: The Song of Songs

This greatest of the last generation of composers from the Lowlands made many settings from the Song of Solomon, but unlike his contemporary Palestrina never published them in one volume. The latest effort by The Cardinall's Musick collects these and a mass inspired by one of them.
