Claudio Monteverdi: Part 2

Program: #93-07🎁   Air Date: Feb 15, 1993

00:00

As Monteverdi began married life in the court at Mantua, his music came under serious attack by the theoretician Giovanni Artusi, who labeled it, "... too emotive, even to the point of cruelty." Monteverdi was devastated, until his brother, in coming to his defense, inspired the delightful collection, Scherzi Musicali. In this second part of our series on Monteverdi, we'll look at the years 1592–1607.
