Program: #89-21👑 Air Date: May 21, 1989
The Folger Consort pays tribute to the great collection known as the "Decameron," where Boccaccio takes a group of noblemen and women and recreates their own musical pursuits as they wait out the plague that is ravishing Florence. The songs and dances of mid-fourteenth century Italy are a counterpoint to the underlying desperation of an increasingly stable and middle class society trying to hold on in the face of a cataclysm.
