When the papal court was forced to reside in the south of France at Avignon, one positive outcome was the flowering of the musical relationship between Franco-Flemish and Italian compositional styles. In this live performance by the Folger Consort, with guest artists William Taylor (harp) and Johana Arnold (soprano), music of Machaut and Ciconia is featured from one of the more exotic periods of church history - the Babylonian Captivity.
