Track Name: Les anges dans nos campagnes
Composer: Trad. arr. Tobias A. Frank
Text: Traditional, French, 19th century
Tobias A. Frank is the Organist and Director of Music at St Luke in Munich, the Lutheran Cathedral of the Bavarian capital.
Tobias sees himself as an arranger rather than as a composer. His works are close to "Close Harmony Style" and English music of the 20th and 21st century.
“During the last days of our summer vacation in Paris we went to a Romanesque church at Montmartre close to the famous basilica Sacré-Cœur. It seemed largely unnoticed by most tourists as only a few visitors were walking through the church. There was a lady sitting on a bench with her rosary who suddenly started to sing a very simple melody reminiscent of “Angels, from the realms of glory”. The highly focused presence of the lady, that singular voice in the remarkable acoustics created a very intimate atmosphere. It was a really inspiring moment. Back in Munich I started to work on my arrangement of “Les anges dans nos campagnes” which is a decelerated and more romantic version of this Christmas hymn mostly heard in rather lively arrangements. And it is also a reminiscence of the close-harmony-style of English choral music combined with a hint of French “esprit”.”
