Thanks to scholar Jaap van Benthem we have reconstructed the work of a once famous contemporary of Dufay--a new project from Austrian radio.

The idea behind Bernhard Drobig’s new ’Fra Bernardo’ label is to create an unmistakable profile in the so-called early music sector: young artists and ensembles are to be offered an international platform and at the same time repertoire outside the mainstream is to be made accessible with the aim of closing some glaring gaps. The most important artists and ensembles include Le Petit Concert Baroque, Philipp von Steinaecker, Musica Saeculorum, Sara Mingardo and Gambe di Legno, as well as The Sound and the Fury, with their own series, Paradise Regained, dedicated to renaissance vocal polyphony.
Only a few compositions by Firminus Caron (ca.1440 - ca.1475) have outlasted the centuries. These three CDs represent almost all of his existing compositions (including five masses). Along with Ockeghem and Busnois, he was named as one of the leading composers of his time by renowned Flemish composer and music theorist Johannes Tinctoris.
