A New Treasure from the Archives: A 500th Anniversary Celebration of Ockeghem

Note: Don't miss your FREE SHOW below!

Dear All:

We continue the work of finding our old shows to add to the archives, and have one of those programs I think is a kind of hallmark for our 40 years. It features our frequent guest, Fr. Jerome Weber (who still happily listens to the program in Utica, NY) and was part of our celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the death of Johannes Ockeghem in 1997.

The concerts and events surrounding this commemoration (including the wonderful Ockeghem Conference in Tours) gave the world a broad reinterpretation of a composer who had often been treated as inaccessible, academic, and dry. Happily (and characteristically), Fr. Weber brought along recordings that were on a scale from difficult- to near-impossible to find; even in compiling the music list for the program, we had to go to some pretty obscure lengths even to find pictures! Here is a link to the list:

It is poignant that we lost one of our great renaissance conductor/scholars featured on the program, Alejandro Planchart, only in late April; I included his biography in the list. (Click here.)

Once again, thank you for the wonderful support as we continue to go forward—and backwards!—in our ongoing exploration of the 1000 years before the birth of Bach!
